Each year Molokai hosts a Lighted Christmas Parade through downtown Kaunakakai. The parade includes lighted floats from local businesses, churches, cultural organizations and more. The lead photo above, is from Friendly Market Center (one of our 2 local grocery stores).
The photo above is “Winter Wonderland from the Planet Pandora”, based on an Avatar theme. The blue body paint was impressive, though it was hard to capture in the photo. The photo below is Cinderella’s Carriage with an adorable princess waving to her admirers.
The Pepsi float below had a combined theme of Breast Cancer Awareness along with children peering through gingerbread house cut outs (complete with Pepsi’s in hand!).
This gigantic tractor below reminds us that Molokai is a prime example of rural life where agriculture plays a pivotal role in the economy, and is central to the island’s work toward sustainability.
After the parade the townspeople gather at a local pavilion where there are food booths, children’s games, crafts and Christmas presents for sale as well as local live music performances. Are you “Yeti” for Christmas yet? The Abominable Snowman is below, and so apparently are the residents of Molokai! The event focused on the children, and it is an eagerly anticipated yearly start to the Christmas season here on Molokai.
